This is GREAT stuff, Frank. I’ve been wondering how people keep up with multiple sites and it sounds like these micro niche sites are pretty low maintenance. I would really like to launch my first micro niche site soon so I’ll check out Dave’s Sales Page Design System. I’ll definitely take any advice you can give as well.

Hi Denise,

The main advantage of using a promotional blog is using things like pinging and RSS feeds where this isn’t that easy to do with a mini-site. You also have to be careful about being a thin affiliate site since that can get you into trouble.

Like I mentioned, I’m doing some experimenting in this area right now so I’ll be talking about the results later.

Hi Dave,

I’m still experimenting with modifications to this theme. I may cut it back down to about 900 pixels so that it will all fit on 1024×768 comfortably. I may also increase the font size slightly too.

On the screen size, I’m seeing 1024×768 and smaller resolutions at about 25-30% across all my sites versus 60% or so with larger screen resolutions (the rest are ‘unknown’). This has changed a lot in the last year or so because it was the other way around just a couple of years ago. I guess a lot of people are buying those big LCD flat screen monitors or like small text these days.

Anyway, I’ll play around with the width and see what I can come up with.

Some fantastic information here and a great use of Justin Tadlock’s Visonary theme but please, have some pity on those of us who actually read and shorten up the line length. Seriously, I think that at my advanced age I might only now be discovering some dyslexia or some other sort of brain condition but it’s well known that about 60 to 70 characters is the optimum length for any age to read.

Plus I also run my monitor at 1024, in common with abouty 80% of the people online today.
Horizontal scrolling really hurts … and if you didn’t have some smart things to say I would have just clicked on .. instead I’ll moan about it and prevail upon your good nature

Hi Roger,

On promoting Clickbank products there are several different ways to do it that will work including a single page ‘review’ site, a review blog or a mall site. I’ve had the most luck with blog promotion but a lot of people have done well with the review page approach so I’ve giving it a try on some pre-owned domains, mainly ones I bought as potential domains for this blog.

The main thing that Google doesn’t like are thin affiliate sites and many single pagers fall under that category. They also like to see things like ‘About’ and ‘Policies’ pages. A single page website, with a few minor supporting pages, can do well as long as you can get good links and have enough usefulness to handle a visual inspection.

If someone promoting clickbank products: you recommend
- one page landing page done in HTML or
- Wordpress blog with landing page or
- HTML site made by software like xsitepro with landing page.

I heard Google is moving away from single landing page and wants a full site backing up that landing page.

You are right, Frank. I’ve never put much thought about all the php queries to run WordPress. A one-page mini site is better off with a simple HTML while I’d go with WordPress for those with multiple pages. Thanks for the tips, Frank.

Hi Yan,

A very stripped down WordPress theme will still have a lot of extra stuff in the final PHP generated HTML while the plain HTML page only needs a few basics.

WordPress also needs a substantial amount of processing power on the server for both PHP and MySQL. This overhead gives you a practical limit of about 50 domains on your average shared hosting account because much beyond that will cause your host to say “upgrade to a dedicated server or you’re out of here.” The HTML page doesn’t need any processing beyond what Apache (or other web server) uses so you can host a lot of domains without a problem.

Where WordPress shines is in areas like getting links from commenting, forum postings and signatures, RSS aggregators and ping sites (including Google Blog Search), social bookmarking and so forth. Also, it’s easier to use for most people than a desktop HTML editor.
